I’m proud of this one. It is my extreme pleasure to introduce to you my very own healing creation: Humble Beginnings, Head-To-Toe Nourishing Miracle Butter! My husband and I have used this product for years before I even let people know I made it, let alone sell it to others.
My miracle butter was born from my pain.
Truthfully, I can’t even really remember exactly when I started crafting it, but I do know it was after I left nursing school in 2015. I was beyond stressed over school and my life in general at that point, and I couldn’t hide that stress even if I tried, because it showed all over my skin. This was during the time when my skin, my acne-prone skin that I’d struggled with for over half of my life was at its worst, and I was desperate to heal it. In an effort to do so I began to immerse myself heavily into natural healing, and that meant using natural products on my skin. So, I began easing away from traditional lotions and moisturizers and opting for natural or at least better moisturizers for my skin. I’d read about making your own personal care items such as soaps, toothpaste, deodorants, and haircare products, but I had no clue where to start. So, I did what everyone does when beginning to make these things: I researched how to do it.
Blessedly, I already had some of the ingredients on hand, so I began to create what would eventually become my head-to-toe miracle butter that would help so many. But over the years, I have modified the butter countless times in an effort to come up with the perfect creation. I only made it to help with the dark spots on my face, chest, and back that acne left behind while taking the place of traditional lotion in moisturizing my skin. I never thought twice about selling it.
“Who would even buy this?” I would always think to myself. Why is it that we’re always so negative about our own talents and our gifts?
Since my skin is so sensitive (seriously, so many products, even so-called natural products turn my skin red and splotchy, or leave me with itty bitty scratches) I had to search high and low for the natural ingredients that not only did the job of fading hyperpigmentation but also left the integrity of my skin intact. It took a few years of trial and error, but I’ve finally perfected my miracle butter, and I’m even more proud to say that I’ve silenced that negative voice of mine because this gem of butter has been selling out in my shop since my shop opened!
This gentle, yet powerful butter has been selling in my store for 4 whole months now. And this post is for everyone who is curious about it, whether you’ve already purchased it and want to know more about it, or even if you know someone you think may need to try it. In this post, I give a breakdown of all the ingredients in my miracle butter and just what makes it so healing.
Shea Butter
Buying shea butter or products with shea butter can be a bit of a minefield. Not all shea butter is created equally. So how can you guarantee that you’re getting a natural, authentic product with maximum impact for the people–like you–who will eventually put their trust in your creation? That’s where I come in.
When it comes to shea butter and what you should know, here are some terms when you’re getting ready to purchase a product that contains shea to be on the lookout for:
- Raw and Unrefined Shea butter has a soft, creamy texture that retains all of its natural benefits. Be on the lookout, however: if the shea butter isn’t handcrafted (meaning if it wasn’t hand-picked and processed by the actual hands of actual people within their villiages or communities) then it may have been extracted with chemicals and solvents in industrial factories.
- Refined Shea Butter means that the shea butter was treated with temperature and chemicals to remove the natural color and scent. This type of shea butter will have a harder texture and the majority of the healing properties will be lost.
- Certified Organic Shea butter is sourced and prepared under a strict, controlled, and thorough environment to ensure that the shea butter in it’s natural, unaltered form is not tampered with. This means there is no contamination of the shea butter with pesticides, fertilizers, nor impurities, and the shea butter can be traced to the actual people who made it.
Colors – The colors of natural shea butter range from whitish to pale yellow in color, and sometimes it’ll even have a slight greenish tinge. The shea butter’s healing properties are usually not affected by color. However, be aware that with yellow shea butter the only way for it to have its yellow color is to dye it.
Humble Beginnings Shea Butter
We’ve searched high and low for a shea butter that we can be proud to stand behind, and we’ve found it! All shea butter in Humble Beginnings products are raw, unrefined, 100% pure, handcrafted, and certified community fair trade, which means that it actually benefits the community of people who make it. The shea butter in our miracle butter started as a shea nut that was actually picked and processed into butter by real people, not a factory. Our unrefined shea butter in our products also retains all its amazing skin benefits. Traditionally, over 75% of bioactive ingredients like vitamin A & E can be lost in the refining process of commercial shea butters. This all means that not only do you get a pure, natural product but when you purchase my miracle butter, you’re helping the very people who make it make a living and changing their lives for the better.
Also:
- Superior in its moisturizing abilities
- Acts as an emollient which helps to protect the skin by sealing in moisture
- Helps to calm skin irritations such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis (dandruff)
- Promotes healthy skin because it’s high in vitamins and fatty acids
- Can encourage new cell generation and boost collagen production. This could help to minimize the appearance of scars, fine lines, and stretch marks with regular use.
Cacao Butter
Cacao butter is another staple in Humble Beginnings Head-To-Toe Nourishing miracle butter. Cacao seeds are the very seeds from which cocoa, cocoa butter, and chocolate are made. The pure oil of the cacao bean, may be added to your favorite smoothie, dessert, ice cream, or chocolate creation for a rich yet delicate chocolate taste. That’s right–the cacao in my miracle butter is so pure, you can and should eat it!
Using cacao butter topically on the skin is a treat like no other – it leaves your skin glowing, vibrant, revitalized, soft, and supple. Taste it, smell it, feel it on your skin – it’s euphoria for your senses! You won’t believe how amazing your skin will look with regular use of this gem!
The organic Cacao Butter that we use is minimally processed from non-GMO, certified organic cacao beans. No chemicals or solvents are used at any point during this process, including deodorizers. This maintains the natural chocolate aroma in our cacao and gives it such a delicious smell, which naturally helps to improve your mood.
Mango Butter
Mango butter is lightweight, non-greasy, and non-comedogenic (simply meaning that it won’t clog your pores). It is also antibacterial and can help soothe acne inflammations. Not only can it help nourish the acne-prone skin, but it can also reduce acne breakouts by signaling the skin to start producing less sebum. When I learned this, it was a no-brainer that this butter was going into my creation.
Mango butter is an amazing natural moisturizer. Don’t let its light texture fool you–mango butter is absolutely incredible in moisturizing the skin. When applied to your skin, it absorbs easily and provides your largest organ with even deep layers of skin-loving nutrients, such as omega 6 and 9 fatty acids as well as vitamins A, C, and E. Mango butter conditions your skin, making it smooth and supple and improves its overall health and appearance. It also strengthens the skin’s natural protective barrier, which helps your skin retain moisture, prevents damages, and drying out.
Also…
- Reduces wrinkles and Fine Lines. Mango butter is a great anti-aging agent. Vitamin A stimulates the skin’s natral renewal process and encourages the skin to produce new, healthy cells, improves skin’s texture and elasticity, and protects the skin against damage caused by UV radiation, all of which leads to firmer skin and fewer wrinkles and fine lines.
- Great even for acne-prone skin. Even oily skin that breaks out often needs regular hydration and nourishment. Mango butter is a great product that won’t irritate inflamed skin further because its’ lightweight, non-greasy, and won’t clog your pores. It’s also antibacterial which soothes acne inflammations, and can also reduce acne breakouts by signaling the skin to start producing less sebum.
- Awesome for sensitive skin, eczema, and psoriasis. This kind of skin needs moisture and nourishment more than any other, and mango butter is an all-natural solution because it doesn’t contain chemicals that can worsen flare-ups. With regular use, it shows a noticeable improvement in your skin by reducing redness and itching.
- Prevents scars and skin imperfections. Mango butter helps in treating existing scars, but prevention is definitely key in maintaining skin integrity. Every time you may be facing skin damage (as with an acne scar or stretch marks from pregnancy), start applying that mango butter preventively as soon as possible. It helps skin to heal faster while providing it with many nutrients to improve skin cell turnover rate, and significantly reduces the damage.
Coconut Oil
No chemicals, additives, animal testing, or harsh industrial processing is ever used in my miracle oil. Just pure, natural, organic raw, virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil. When it comes to coconut oil, our search continues for only the absolute very best for our Humble Beginnings products.
What’s the Difference Between Traditional and Cold Pressed Coconut Oil?
As the name suggests, traditional coconut oil is processed using traditional techniques passed down through generations. This traditional method heightens the flavor, creating a sweet, toasted coconutty oil that many prefer for products, cooking, and eating.
Cold-pressed coconut oil is processed entirely without heat. This method means that cold-pressed coconut oil has less taste and odor than traditional.
Both types work well for formulating products. It comes down to personal preference as to whether you want more scent and taste to the oil.
The cold-pressed coconut oil in our products has lots of great benefits:
– Reduces dryness and seals moisture into the skin.
– High in lauric acid which adds a smooth texture to product formulations and also boosts collagen production to maintain the skin’s elasticity.
– Rich in antioxidants, like vitamin E, to protect the skin and reduce signs of aging.
– Has anti-inflammatory properties to soothe irritated skin.
A word of caution:
I cannot list all the benefits of coconut oil without listing some things to be cautious of when it comes to coconut oil so that you can make an informed decision about it. Even though coconut oil is known to contain skin soothers like vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and lauric acid, which is a fatty acid that has been shown to have anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, it can also cause irritation in some people.
Coconuts are considered tree nuts, so if you’re already sensitive to any type of nut or have an allergy, coconut oil could cause an allergic reaction. When applied topically this could appear as itchiness or small red bumps. If you’re prone to nut allergies, we recommend that you test a little bit of the butter on a small patch of your skin for up to a week and see how you take to it before fully immersing your body in it.
However, to this day, our miracle butter has been gentle enough to use on and really help even a toddler with multiple allergies–including nuts–as well as eczema. The review is available on the miracle butter’s shop page.
Jojoba Oil
Looking to moisturize your skin with a natural, chemical-free product that won’t irritate your complexion? No matter what type of skin you have, there’s not much out there that can do the job better than simmondsia chinensis, otherwise known as jojoba seed oil. Used for centuries by indigenous peoples to help with everything from hydrating the skin to healing wounds, the benefits and uses of jojoba seed oil are plenty and can make for a welcome addition to many skincare regimens.
What is jojoba seed oil?
Jojoba seed oil and wax are derived from the jojoba plant, which is native to the desert climates of Northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States.
Once it’s been extracted from the seeds, jojoba oil is colorless and odorless. The oil can be found on the ingredients lists of many skincare, body care, and makeup items — including shampoos, cleansers, lotions, and lipstick, to name just a few.
Jojoba seed oil is a fantastic ingredient for its versatility and compatibility with just about every skin type, from dry to oily and acne-prone. Jojoba oil is a natural emollient, and the actual scientific structure of jojoba seed oil is closest to our own skin’s natural oil called sebum. This is what makes it most easily absorbable and accepted by our skin. That also means it won’t block your pores, like some thicker, heavier oils. Because it’s scentless, it’s an oil that’s ideal for those with sensitivities to fragrance and perfumes.
Jojoba oil also works to treat dryness by trapping water within our skin, which helps to hydrate the skin and repair any roughness, flakiness, or other symptoms of dehydration. Jojoba is also excellent for exfoliating and soothing the skin because it’s great at unclogging hair follicles and pores. This works wonders for acne-prone skin–by reducing harmful buildup that can lead to the formation of certain acne bacteria, jojoba helps stop breakouts in their tracks.
Jojoba oil can be used for so many things: As a hair treatment, an overnight moisturizer, for eczema and psoriasis relief, and even as an anti-aging wrinkle preventer.
Olive Oil
Olive oil, which is made by pressing olives and extracting their oil, comes in many different forms and has many uses.
Most of us have a bottle of olive oil sitting in our cupboards — I know I do! Olive oil is perfect for use in a salad dressing or stir-fry. It’s likely that most people haven’t considered using it for anything other than enhancing their dinner. But people are increasingly looking toward olive oil for its benefits as a facial moisturizer.
Like most oil that’s processed, distributed, and sold to us, olive oil is within the category of oils that requires careful consideration when purchasing it. Not all olive oils are equal. What you’re looking for in olive oil is exactly what we supply in Humble Beginnings Head-To-Toe Nourishing Miracle Butter:
- Oil that comes in a dark glass bottle to protect it from light. This keeps the oil fresh and safe from oxidizing too soon.
- Organic
- Cold-pressed
- Extra virgin
If you would like to use olive oil on your face, just remember that quality matters. Be wary of oil blends as opposed to pure olive oil. One study found that some popular brands of olive oil didn’t meet the actual standards for what olive oil should be, and sadly this is becoming the norm.
Olive oil can be ruined during transportation if it’s exposed to excessive heat, light, or oxygen. This is why the olive oil should be in a dark glass bottle. The quality of the olive oil can be affected if damaged or overripe olives are used in its production or if the oil is stored improperly. Look for a label with a certification from the International Olive Council on your olive oil bottle.
Olive oil’s Benefits include:
- Anti-aging benefits
- Moisturizes and softens the hair and skin
- Great and safe for removing makeup
- Stunts the onset of bacterial infections, such as staph
- It’s rich in vitamins as it contains all fat-soluable vitamins A, D, E, and K
- If you’re prone to acne, using a soap or skincare products made with olive oil moisturizes and hydrates your skin as well as fights bacteria that causes acne.
Now you can see why we needed olive oil in the head-to-toe butter. Its benefits extend way beyond a sauteeing oil!
Vanilla Essential Oil
The sweet, warm, rich aroma of vanilla extract not only soothes the palate, but it also calms the mind; and now findings have discovered that vanilla extract and oil also restores skin! How awesome is that?!
The extract of vanilla is rich in antioxidants and phenolic compound vanillin that helps to neutralize free radicals and prevent skin damage.
Vanilla beans are enriched with antioxidants and antibacterial properties.
Vanilla is loaded with different B vitamins especially niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B6, and pantothenic acid – all of which help to maintain skin health.
The vanilla essential oil used in beauty products is made from fermented vanilla beans. In fact, the vanilla flavor is first extracted from the beans with alcohol to get the vanilla extract which is what we use in our food. This extract is then blended with a carrier oil like jojoba oil to create a vanilla essential oil. This is the oil that is used in beauty products.
Vanilla In Your Beauty Regime
Vanilla is anything but plain when added to beauty potions. When you add drops of vanilla essential oil to your lotion or your shampoo, you are doing a whole lot of good to your skin and hair. It’s one of the reasons Miracle Butter smells so good and works so well on your skin and hair.
- It makes a great remedy for fighting acne. The vanilla is known to have antibacterial and antioxidant properties that prevent breakouts and soothe redness and irritation
- Reverses skin damage by slowing down signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Leaves your skin rejuvenated and smelling lovely.
- Is loaded with B-vitamins which play an important role in maintaining healthy skin, because it helps to protect your skin from damage caused by environmental pollutants and toxins.
- Helps to rescue dry hair with its soothing properties and balances the scalp and soften dry, rough hair. It also helps to keep breakage and roughness in check.
Why do you think we wanted vanilla oil in our miracle butter? After reading all these benefits, it’s easy to see why vanilla oil was a must for our butter.
Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon oil is a skincare superstar!
Lemon oil has a variety of uses and benefits. With a clean, fresh, citrus aroma, lemon is known for its purifying properties. Whether it is being diffused, taken internally, or applied topically, Lemon essential oil offers a variety of benefits.
Have you ever tried using lemon oil for your skin? It turns out, this essential oil can help exfoliate your skin. When incorporated into your skincare routine, it can help give your complexion a refreshed, healthy-looking glow. Lemon oil provides an uplifting environment and promotes a positive mood, making it an excellent partner to the vanilla in the butter. Due to the chemical makeup of lemon oil, it has been shown to help improve mood with an energizing and invigorating aroma. So, when you’re wearing the miracle butter, you can’t help but be in a good mood with the uplifting lemon (and vanilla) natural fragrances.
Radiant-looking skin is a real thing thanks to lemon essential oil. It only takes a few drops to your skincare routine if you’re ready for glowing, gorgeous skin. Using lemon on your skin during the day can impact how the sun interacts with your skin–it could cause skin sensitivity to the sun. However, the amount of lemon oil in the miracle butter combined with the other protective ingredients of the butter makes the lemon oil safe to use, day or night.
Lemon Oil Also…
- Is one of several essential oils that can kill harmful bacteria that can grow on your skin. Lemon essential oil was shown to be effective against strains of bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli. This makes a good choice for topically cleaning small wounds.
- Has protective properties, such as antioxidants that may brighten and preserve your skin tone.
- Is used for a variety of skin conditions, including acne. When diluted and applied topically to the skin, lemon essential oil can kill bacteria that may get trapped in pores and cause breakouts. It can also clarify your skin, gently exfoliating dead skin cells that so often become trapped in hair follicle and pores.
- Has healing properties, so you get the added bonus of speedier healing from breakouts and treatment of acne scars when you use it.
- Is generally safe for topical use. It’s reported to be very safe for pregnant women and babies over 3 months old.
- May promote wound healing since it’s packed with antimicrobial properties. It should come as no surprise to learn that this oil should belong in your first aid kit.
So you can see why lemon oil is a staple product for the miracle butter.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Seriously, the benefits of rosehip seed for your integumentary system are so numerous that not having it in one’s hair and skin beauty regime is just a major miss.
Here’s a little history on rosehip. Rosehip oil is also known as rosehip seed oil. It comes from the rosa canina rose bush, which is grown mostly in Chile. Rosehip seed oil has been prized since ancient times for its valuable healing benefits. It’s loaded with skin-nourishing vitamins and essential fatty acids, and it also contains organic compounds that have been shown to have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.
Rosehip seed oil is a godsend for the skin and the hair. Adding it to your hair and skincare routine–whether you’re male or female–is one of the best things you can do to keep yourself looking youthful.
Rosehip for Skin
For starters, rosehip seed’s hydration for the skin is unparalleled. Hydration is essential for soft, supple skin, and rosehip oil contains a wealth of essential fatty acids that help to keep cell walls strong so that they don’t lose water.
Rosehip is also incredibly moisturizing to your skin. It helps to lock in your skin’s natural hydration. And for those with oily skin, rosehip oil is a nongreasy oil, making it a great natural moisturizer for all skin types.
Extensive research suggests that rosehip seed offers several anti-aging properties, able to diminish stretch marks, wrinkles, and scars of all kinds, which makes it fantastic for surgical scars and acne scars.
It also helps to:
- Exfoliate and brighten the skin
- Boost collagen formation for skin elasticity and firmness
- Helps to reduce inflammation, which explains why my skin began to look smoother and healthier while I was using it, even though my skin was still broken out. This means it will help to calm eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, & dermatitis or dandruff.
- Help to protect against sun damage
- Helps to reduce hyperpigmentation, including dark circles
Rosehip for the hair
When it comes to natural hair treatments, there aren’t many options that are as wholesome and effective as rosehip oil. A rich source of essential fatty acids, vitamins, and a host of other fabulous compounds, rosehip oil for hair is a great alternative for those looking to repair damaged hair, thicken and nourish dull or thinning hair strands, and encourage hair growth by combating hair loss.
The essential fatty acids contained in rosehip oil aids in hair loss by renewing and healing hair follicles, which are essential for promoting hair growth. The fatty acids not only deeply moisturize the skin underneath the hair, but they also increase the hair’s elasticity, improving luster and shine.
